You asked what we’re afraid of? Right now, nothing in particular. But who can guarantee what will happen in the future, especially when the content here falls into a category that is prohibited from being shared? -

We have all seen many sharing sites come and go for various reasons. I surely do not want Onkyo4k to become just another fond memory. That said, I also do not want to see additional workload for @Onkyo without some real gain for the community. I trust @Onkyo will do what is best for the website, and I am sure all of our members will support her in any way we can.

Every few years there's a cleanup of major sharing sites, as well as filehosts. Nobody likes it, but that's the way it is. It's better to be prepared than shutting everything down and starting from scratch. -

Rest assured that I continue to back up the data regularly. In the worst-case scenario, if the hosting provider ever stops providing its service, we would still be able to restore the website from a backup without worrying about losing our data.

Also, for those who may not know, downloading via NZB/Usenet is currently one of the more privacy-friendly ways to download content. It offers significantly more privacy than downloading directly over HTTP or using torrents. So there’s no need to worry—you won’t face any limitations when using Onkyo4k.

Just a thought on the NZB/Usenet method, it is certainly more convenient having the password included in the NZB file. Automatic unpacking occurs without any input from the user. However, wouldn't the whole system be a little more secure if the password was not in the NZB file and we would manually have to input it?

I checked and in SABnzbd one can enter one or more default passwords to be tried is the password is not included in the NZB file. Automatic unpacking will work as normal.

@Sammybear, All the NZB files I upload to Google are the original NZB files, and they already contain the password. You don’t need to enter any password in SABnzbd. SABnzbd will recognize the password in the NZB file and automatically use it to extract the files.

If you disable SABnzbd’s automatic extraction feature, you can manually extract the files with WinRAR, just like you used to.

Simply put, SABnzbd is just a tool for downloading files from Usenet. An NZB file is like a map that tells SABnzbd where to find the data on Usenet so it can download it.

Maybe I didn't explain myself properly. I fully understand the operation of the NZB files. What I am speaking to is the security lapse caused by including the password in the NZB file.

Suppose sometime in the future some agency or organization starts scrubbing the NZB files found on the Google drives. With the password provided they could quickly determine that the content is restricted in some manner.

If you omit the password from the NZB files then there would be no straightforward way to determine if the content is restricted. We could each keep the password in our SABnzbd password list. Post-processing would still be fully automatic.

To upload to Usenet, you have to post the files to a group. For example: group: alt.binaries.test.
If you don’t set a password for the files, other people can find Onkyo4k’s files in the alt.binaries.test group and freely extract them. They would then have access to Onkyo4k’s content without any problems at all. -

My Google account was banned because I created too many Google accounts on the same device, which caused Google to think I was spamming account registrations. Google actually told me that this was the reason.
It wasn’t banned because I uploaded NZB files. An NZB is essentially just a text file (.TXT) that you can open with Notepad. Google doesn’t ban data simply because it’s stored in a text file. -

And nobody would download the nzb file to trace its origin and impose penalties; it's completely illogical and impractical.
