And there is no time like the present to contradict myself... The movie 'Secret Agent' (1936) is the only major Hitchcock movie that has never been restored to the Blu-ray format. So having that on DVD would be nice.
@Onkyo Only movies or series that is not available on Blu-ray or 4k, but only on DVD, should still be uploaded, if you ask me. For now I only download 4K and if not available in 4K then I get the Blu-ray and if not available in Blu-ray then I get the DVD. But DVD is low quality today.
I'm more interested in the quality of the movies / shows themselves, rather than the image quality. I'd prefer a DVD of a 50's noir to a 4k release of Fast and Furious 25.
There's no image quailty in the world that will make a bad movie better (or even slightly interesting) and if a good movie is still only available in DVD, I'll take it. So let's not put down DVDs altogether
I was interested in the post for 'The Little Princess' (1939). I have a soft spot for the old Shirley Temple and Mickey Rooney films. So I start to download it when I noticed in the post the audio language is "Sinhalese". What the hell is "Sinhalese"??
As it turns out this is the main language spoken in Sri Lanka. So I played the movie hoping to have Shirley Temple speaking "Sinhalese" but, alas, the audio track is actually English. I guess I will have to go to Sri Lanka soon.
Some newbie rippers fail to properly identify the audio / subtitle languages. There was a horror movie, can't remember whice one, and the info said it had 3 different English subtitles. I assumed they were regular / hearing impaired / commentary. It turned out none of the 3 subtitles were English.
Ah, that would happen in the good old days of torrents. When it would take two whole days to download a movie, only to find out that it was in a language you didn't understand.
@RogerRabbit: Thanks. Talking about DVDs makes me feel like a grandpa reminiscing the good ol' days, starting every sentence "You hippie youngsters wouldn't know it, but in my day..." But truth is, they're still relevant.
@bulletdodger Yes they are. While I am not championing the uploading of the format (I'm very much a UHD/FHD snob ) DVD as a format is very much alive and well accounting for 60% ($1.5 Billion) of physical sales annually. All major releases come to DVD and its still a thriving format around the world, driven in part by cost of living challenges. I'm all for anything that keeps film and TV accessible to the widest audience possible.
the way I see it, there are only two approaches for handling the DVD / Blu-ray question: 1) Take a poll of the active members to determine their needs and preferences regarding various postings. OR 2) Have @Onkyo use her best judgement and select the postings based on her knowledge of our membership.
However, #2 is the very method we have been using on this site all along. In my opinion the service that @Onkyo has been proving has been nothing short of excellent.
@Onkyo : In some case, DVDs are needed for different reason : Bonus, other Cut of the movie, other language/sub, other Master source and so on ...
You can upload only what doesn't exist already in better format but maybe you can open a place for VIP Members (as you have manage it for Blu-ray) where you put other DVDs and for us to mark with a heart on the thread to know it was requested for an upload ?
Really wasted my donation. I have a BIG problem downloading using these google files. Errors out with "No Such Files Found" I have no problem downloading NZB's every other place using NewdDemon. BUT just because it's recommended I installed SAZnzb and it does the same thing OR it downloads and never extracts automatically and gives the CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) errors Guess I'm just an idiot.
A while back I too had big problems with my downloads. Constant CRC errors, RAR extraction errors, etc.. It turned out that I had a faulty memory module. Once replaced all of my downloads have been error free. And to @HIWorkn , I believe that SABnzbd will not try to automatically extract if there was an error in any of the downloaded files.
